Sunstone is a brand new crystal for me. I had never even heard of it, until I read about it in Tess Whitehurst’s book ‘The Art of Bliss.’ The book takes you through each Feng Shui area in your living space and gives ideas to improve the energy.
Sunstones are recommended for the Radiance part of the house, which is where “Helpful People” would be in the regular Feng Shui Bagua. Whitehurst says this about Sunstones:
Sunstone also appears to emanate its own light, and it has a bright and sunny quality that lifts our spirits and enhances our confidence. Wearing it or carrying it can help us to have fun in social settings and enjoy sharing our unique light with the world.
Whitehurst, T. The Art of Bliss, 2012. p.197
I don’t know that there is a single thing that can make me have fun in social settings that isn’t alcohol or other substances, but I’ve never tried sunstone so I guess I can’t say. As of writing this, we are deep into quarantine and social distancing in the United States so thankfully I won’t have to put this to the test.
The History of Sunstones
Found in Norway, Sweden and rare places in Australia and the USA, Sunstone gets is color from copper flakes inside.
Here is a great quote about Sunstone history:
It is the representation of Ra in Egyptian mythology and Helios in Greek mythology, both representations of sun gods.
Even further back, indigenous peoples believed that this crystal fell during solar eclipses, a part of our sun fallen from heaven.

What Does Sunstone Do?

While Moonstone is an introspective, calming stone, Sunstone is its opposite. The two are said to be yin and yang to each other. I’ve worked with Moonstone already (which you can see here), so working with Sunstone will be interesting.
Sunstone helps you get in touch with your masculinity and inspires leadership and action.
My Plan:

I’m going to work extensively with Sunstone over the next week. I’ve been incredibly down lately and not wanting to take any action, so I’m hoping Sunstone will give me the boost I need. If nothing else, maybe having it on hand will serve as a physical reminder to get my ass in gear.
I will work with Sunstone in the following ways:
- Meditating (there are a lot of guided Sunstone meditations on Youtube)
- Make myself take action on things I’ve been putting off
- Yoga (I’ve slacked off on this with other stones, but I won’t with this one since it’s a stone of action)
- Doing traditionally “masculine” things (I’m very female-identifying so I’m not even sure what this would be…fixing cars? Idk)
- Daily journaling

If you want to work with crystals yourself, I have a free crystal worksheet you can use:

If you want some Sunstones of your own, you can buy a small one at Energy Muse here or a larger touchstone here.
If you want something to wear, here is a really cool bracelet on Amazon:
You can also buy them in bulk, which is great for crystal grids:
Let me know if you’ve worked with Sunstone and how it worked! Feel free to pin this image to save it for later:
