Yellow Aventurine was my crystal project for this week. This stone is supposed to improve your confidence. I wrote about it here if you want the basic info on it. I’m doing things a little differently this week, since I have a clear directive to improve my confidence. All of my posts this week will be about improving my confidence, and then at the end we’ll see if Yellow Aventurine did anything or if it’s a bunch of nonsense. Let’s find out!

Working with Yellow Aventurine
I’ve focused on confidence-boosting journaling this week, and I put links to each resource from each day. Feel free to do these yourself! Let me know if you’re working on this and I’ll support you:

Day 1 – Inner Child

My journaling today comes from these Confidence-Boosting Journal Questions. I’m not going to do all 28 of them because my patience is shorter than my confidence. I’ll chose one or two each day.
This article says you need to do these exercises for a month to see improvements, so I might do that in private and see how it goes.
Are you where you thought you would be at this age? How do you feel about that?
Quite honestly, I never thought I would live this long. When I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as a kid, it wasn’t as common of a disease. The doctors gave vague answers and I was left to make assumptions. I was 8 years old, so anyone older than 16 seemed like they were 100. I thought I’d be dead after high school, and I realize now that I’ve never bothered to make long term plans. I never dreamed of my wedding day. Never thought about saving for retirement. I’ve always assumed I’d be gone long before then. And yet here I am.
If I could go back in time and meet that 8-year-old girl, I would say, “yes, you’re still alive. You have your own place to live, a garden, and pets YOU care for yourself. And so many clothes, that YOU bought, with your OWN money. You escape eventually, so just hold on a bit longer. You’re a writer, a singer, a voice actor, and an animal rescuer. You did all of the things you most wanted.”
I wouldn’t tell her that she never got to be famous, because I think that would crush her at that age. She thought being famous would mean being loved. She later learned that she had no desire to be famous, and that true love comes from within yourself.

Day 2 – Getting Comfortable

These are my journal prompts for today. If you end up working with any of these, let me know how it works for you!
What situations make you uncomfortable and why? List 10, then list 10 ways you could adjust your mindset to feel more comfortable in the previously listed situations.
Okay well I’m not listing 10 things because that’s way too long for this blog, but I’ll talk about my main one: shopping. Everything about it is a stressful event. I’m nervous about driving, parking, entering, shopping, checking out, leaving the parking lot and driving home.
Honestly, I think covid has made this much worse. While before I might have had social anxiety, borderline agoraphobia, I think I’ve become a full-on hermit witch who emerges once every fortnight for pet food.
Part of adjusting my mindset will be when the pandemic is over (or at least when we’ve mostly returned to normal). But this is a cycle: I feel uncomfortable and that lessens my confidence, which makes me more uncomfortable, etc. Every outing requires a tremendous amount of self-talk and affirmations. Those help at least enough to get me through the situation.

Day 3 – Overcoming Fear

Although this post says there are 31 Self-Esteem prompts, there are a lot I’ve already seen from days 1 and 2. That’s fine, I don’t need to do that many but I just wanted to mention that I’m getting a lot of repeats.
Give an example of a time when you overcame your fear.
The biggest example is when I tried zip lining. I was terrified of the idea but wound up accidentally on a zip lining trip. I talk about it in this video if you want to check it out:
Most recently, I overcame my fear of new places to get my first covid vaccine. Normally I like to have time to check a place out, and I didn’t have time in this case. It went fine, and now I know the place for my next shot!

Day 4 – Meeting Goals

Here are 40 self-esteem prompts, but a lot of these don’t seem to directly relate to self esteem. These are more for kids so that might be why.
Write about a time when you set a goal and achieved it.
Last year was very difficult for me, but I decided I wanted to make a website dedicated to crystals. I had just finished upgrading my main website, but that site was about music. I was finding it harder to combine the outlet for my love of crystals with music, so I decided to build a new website. And here we are!
Although website building can be challenging, frustrating and enraging at times, I also enjoy it a lot. I wonder if I could do a career in computers, IT, web design, etc? I’m entirely self-taught but I could always learn. Something to think about, I guess.

Day 5 – Learning New Things

By this point I’m realizing how many similar self-esteem journal prompts there are. I’m considering a self esteem workbook for a deeper dive:
Anyway, onto today’s journaling:
Discuss something you want to learn, improve, or change that would make you feel better about yourself. Create an action plan to get this taken care of.
I have so many things I want to learn. Everything from car mechanics to biology to piano, I want to know it all. I want to improve my financial stability. Right now my income varies drastically month to month, and I’d love to find something stable. As far as changing, I have several things I’d love to get plastic surgery on. For right now, I’m going to focus on something I’ve wanted to learn for a long time: Trading Stocks.
I bought an online course in how to trade stocks, so I’m going to make it a point to learn all I can about it. My goal is to become well-versed in stock trading within the rest of this year. I’d like to be able to make some decent side money doing it. My action plan will be weekly lessons using my course and applying the lessons to my own life. I hope this class is for the very basic/dumbest beginners, because I don’t know the first thing about buying stocks.

Day 6 – Career Path

This post only has 6 questions, but they’re more extensive than others. I chose this question because I’ve already been thinking about it nonstop, so I might as well write about it.
Challenge your career path. If you suddenly inherited an enormous sum of money, meaning you could quit your job and live a life of luxury, what would you do? What would this financial freedom allow you to explore? How would you spend your time? Think of ways you can do some of this even without unlimited funds.
I would have a farm full of rescued animals, and that would be it. I’d spend my time caring for them and also managing the operations, etc. I would have volunteers and/or paid employees to help with a lot of it. I have no desire to do fundraising or marketing, and I don’t always want to take care of the animals 7 days a week so I’d want others to help.
Technically, I could try to do this now. I can start working with a rescue and fostering animals, it’s just that my current pets hate other dogs they don’t know, so it’s challenging. Plus they’re so old and frail that I worry about putting undue stress on them. I don’t know, maybe those are excuses. Maybe I can start volunteering or working with a rescue or something now.

Day 7 – Accepting Compliments

Today I’m going to answer questions I didn’t get to answer from previous posts. A lot of them were similar but I want to make sure I do this right. I went with these questions from the first day.
What is one compliment you often get that always surprises you or that you have a difficult time accepting?
Any compliments about my appearance always throw me for a loop. They don’t have to be creepy (although they occasionally are), it just weirds me out that people even look at me, let alone like what they see.
In order to detract from my physical appearance, I often wear nice clothes. I enjoy putting outfits together and usually have some type of conversation piece, so complements on my outfits are always nice (except for the creepy ones) and I appreciate that people notice.
I feel like a hideous monster. Even with full hair, makeup, and a ball gown on, I feel like ‘ew I’m so gross I look like shit I want to go home.’ Then if someone says, “I love your dress!” I momentarily have a few seconds of the idea that I belong here. However, those are fleeting and then I revert back to myself.

My Results Working with Yellow Aventurine:
- While I don’t think I permanently improved my confidence, making it a point to focus on these prompts every day really did make a difference! It’s easy to forget your progress or your good qualities, but setting aside time to reflect and remember achievements is really helpful.
- The journaling helped the most, but the Yellow Aventurine was a nice visual reminder to do the work.
- I didn’t write about the rest of my week, but I had a job interview that I felt REALLY bad/weird about and I ended up turning it down. I think my boost in confidence allowed me to see that this job isn’t right for me.
- I also did yoga every day and really enjoyed the relaxation and the dedication to physical activity. I haven’t done this in a while and it was great to be back!
- I did not hike at all this week because it was freezing and gross outside, but I think this experiment overall was a success.

My Tips for Working with Yellow Aventurine:
- If your goal is to improve your confidence, I highly recommend the journaling exercises! Please use any of my resources above, or check out self esteem workbooks online.
- No stone can magically give you confidence. However, working with Yellow Aventurine while focusing on confidence can associate the stone with confidence for you.
- If you have an event where you need a lot of confidence, your trusty Yellow Aventurine can be great to take with you! Make sure you work with it first, so that you associate it with confidence before the event.
- There are plenty of self esteem meditations you can use also! I didn’t meditate a lot this week, but I feel like it definitely would have helped!
